GDIF 2024 | London’s free, annual outdoor performing arts festival 23 August-8 September 2024
We’re delighted to be presenting two shows as part of 14-18 NOW, the UK’s official arts programme for the First World War centenary.
Further details about both events will be announced along with the full festival programme on March 26.
Fly By Night
by Duke Riley
A unique performance at dusk above the river Thames, paying homage to some of the First World War’s unsung heroes: the military pigeons that played crucial roles delivering messages between distant personnel.
Co-commissioned by LIFT, 14-18 NOW, Peabody, Greenwich+Docklands International Festival and London Borough of Bexley. Originally commissioned by Creative Time.

This Is Not For You
by Graeae Theatre Company
Graeae’s new, epic outdoor performance paying moving tribute to Britain’s wounded war veterans will have its world premiere at GDIF. The piece is directed by Jenny Sealey, written by Mike Kenny and performed by Blesma, The Limbless Veterans, professional performers and a choir of local people.
This Is Not For You is a story of veterans’ fight for respect and remembrance, told with heft, beauty and wry humour, both on the ground and off it, with audio description and sign language as integral parts of the production. Graeae Theatre Company, with the National Centre for Circus Arts, has trained 25 disabled veterans in aerial performance especially for the piece.
Co-commissioned by 14-18 NOW and Blesma, The Limbless Veterans, supported by Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation (UK Branch)
