Part of Greenwich Fair
Duration: c. 30 minutes
Icarus is a dance theatre interpretation of the Greek myth which explores a universal human story: the tension between our ambition and our capability; between our hopes and dreams and our (perceived) reality.
Using daring physicality, leaps, jumps, and lifting, we will see Icarus’ obsession with the skies and his quest to achieve flight. Using dance and the distinctive, highly physical language that Southpaw has become known for, Icarus will leap, flip, and lift, ever raising the stakes in the bid to attain flight, ever looking upwards.
Icarus is the brand new show from Southpaw Dance Company, the creator of touring works Faust and Carousel, and large scale spectaculars such as RUSH and Wordplay.
Part of Greenwich Fair, 23-24 June. GDIF’s annual family-friendly weekend which is chock-full of incredible theatre, dance, street arts and circus from the UK and Europe.
There is step-free access to the performance location in Cutty Sark Gardens. The most direct route is from the north side of Cutty Sark Gardens, near the Foot Tunnel. Or else you can access the performance level at the entrance to Cutty Sark Gardens from Greenwich Church Street (near M&S and the Gipsy Moth Pub).
This area will be marked with a flag or sign – please ask a GDIF Volunteer if you’re not sure where to go. There will be some limited seating provided, too.
