30 June 2019
Duration: 60 minutes
Type: Circus, Theatre
This “one of a kind” occasion thoughtfully reinvents the idea of the circus coming to town. Over several days the people of The Moorings have welcomed the acclaimed French Circus Compagnie XY to Thamesmead, sharing their stories and inviting this extraordinary group of acrobats into their community. For one very special afternoon GDIF audiences are invited to share in this uplifting process, which combines elements of flashmob and street party, offering a chance to get up close, as the magic of circus meets the hopes and dreams of a community.

About the show
Based in France, Compagnie XY are a leading circus company whose exhilarating work has been presented in many countries. Working as a collective, this group of around 20 acrobats explore the relationship between artistic practices and public space, experimenting with performance beyond the confines of theatre. Compagnie XY aim to find out how the language of acrobatics can infiltrate and reflect public spaces and play with the physical constraints to show places that we once thought were familiar in a different light.
Peabody is investing more than £1bn in Thamesmead over the next ten years. We are building new homes, refurbishing existing ones, and working with the community to make the area a better place to live. Last year Thamesmead celebrated its 50th anniversary and is now entering an exciting new phase of development which will see it realise its potential as London’s new town. This means investment beyond bricks and mortar. It means investing in people and businesses, helping to create prosperity and success.
