Everyday life transforms into an extraordinary celebration of community and dance. 

With magical surprises popping up out of the everyday life of the town centre, the energy of a flashmob ripples through the streets in an extraordinary celebration of community. Five days of joyous pop-up performances build toward a spectacular mass movement dance finale co-created with local dance groups for a GDIF 2026 climax filled with energy, connection and joy.

 

CLOSING EVENT (6 Sept)

Co-created with Greenwich community dance groups (In)visible Dancing forms the spectacular mass movement finale of GDIF2026, created by Luca Silvestrini’s Woolwich based dance company, Protein. The energy of a flashmob ripples through the streets in a celebration of community, filled with energy, connection and joy.

 

POP-UP PERFORMANCES (1-5 Sept)

Throughout the week you will see Woolwich come alive with smaller pop-up dance performances, in collaboration with local dance groups, before culminating with an unforgettable finale on 6 Sept.

One of the most distinctive voices in British dance theatre, Artistic Director Luca Silvestrini has been using a blend of original choreography, text, music and social commentary to engage and entertain audiences and participants for over 25 years.
Protein’s work is moved by the desire to connect deeply with audiences, using storytelling, immersive locations, and audience interaction to remove traditional boundaries and nurture an inclusive, participatory experience.
Protein’s critically acclaimed wide range of productions and community projects are much admired and in demand across the UK and the world. Amongst them LOL (lots of love), Border Tales, May Contain Food, May Contain Food May Contain You, especially created for rural touring, and The Little Prince.  Luca has also created popular outdoor shows, including On Display, (In)visible Dancing, Windows in Progress and the recent promenade experience En Route.
The company is a leader in producing transformative performance projects that bring together participants and artists of all ages and walks of life. Through its inclusion programme, Protein works with specific communities including children and young people in alternative provision schools and hospitals, as well as with elders in care homes and with refugees and people seeking sanctuary. Recent projects include, But I Am, May Contain You and There and Here, which won The Stage Awards Community Project of the Year 2023.
Recipient of the Art and Entertainment Civic Award 2022 from The Royal Borough of Greenwich, Protein is a Resident Artistic Company at Woolwich Works and Artistic Director Luca Silvestrini is an Affiliate Artist at The Place.

On the Move – The show travels from Powis Street to General Gordon Square. There will be an assisted route for the performance.  

Join In  – There is a moment at the end of the performance where audiences can choose to join in with a dance

This show is relaxed. This means you can come and go as you please, move around and make noise.  

Level Access  

There are level access routes at General Gordon and Beresford Square. 

There will be short ramps onto raised areas.  

There will be a mix of hard and soft standing. 

Access Viewing Area 

A staffed access viewing area for disabled audience members will be marked with a sign or flag. Space for wheelchair users, companions and seating with and without arms will be available.  

The viewing area will have volunteers and staff available throughout the event. 

Accessible Toilets 

Beresford Square accessible public toilets will be open  

Local businesses in the town centre have accessible toilets, some require a radar key 

Woolwich Works has a Changing Places facility 650m from General Gordon Square.

Available at Woolwich Arsenal Station Car Park, or on-street parking on Calderwood Street, Monk Street, Powis Street
