GDIF commission tours to India

Silence by Teatr Biuro Podróży

at ITFOK Festival, Kerala this January

GDIF co-commissioned Teatr Biuro Podróży’s Silence and the world premiere performances took place in Bethnal Green Gardens in June 2016. On the eve of their appearance at the ITFOK Festival in Kerala, India, company member Marta reflects on the ongoing success of Silence.

It has been two years since the opening of the performance of Silence by Teatr Biuro Podróży at GDIF in London – long enough to test the power and impact of the performance. We can proudly say that it has lived and, even more, it is prospering – receiving stunning acclaim in Poland; a country which has declined to host a single refugee. The shame of this is even greater as Poles themselves are a nation producing emigrants, starting with the big emigration to the US at the end of the 19th century and the beginning of the 20th century, then post Martial Law emigration mostly to Germany and France (after 1981) and finally a very recent one to the UK and Ireland. Teatr Biuro Podróży are honoured to take up the issue and spread the message of human solidarity and compassion wherever we can. As the German Westdeutsche Allgemeine Zeitung wrote about the performance: “This is a memorial for the many millions of people who have not been able to become “a refugee problem” in Europe.”

Now Silence is going to India where it will be presented at the ITFOK Festival in Thrissur in Kerala on the 29 January.

Look out for more news on Teatr Biuro Podróży’s tour to India soon.
